Our Story

Focus LLP was formed as a partnership by Bill Minor, CPA, CGA, and Glenn Fines, CPA, CGA on January 2, 2019. Prior to this Bill operated the firm as Minor & Associates since 2009. Glenn joined Minor & Associates in 2014 and received his CPA, CGA designation shortly thereafter in February 2017. Bill and Glenn have both completed the CPA In-depth tax course and participate in annual professional development in the areas of financial accounting and taxation, ensuring that they have the most up to date information to provide to the firm’s clients. We take pride in being a small firm that replies promptly to phone calls and emails in order to provide the best service to our clients. Our firm utilizes modern technology to facilitate the sharing of documents and information with our clients and can work remotely with cloud-based accounting software. Our professional and dedicated team continuously works to exceed your expectations by providing guidance and services that are tailored to your unique requirements.

Bill Minor

Partner

Bill Minor is the Managing Partner of Focus LLP. Bill has been an owner of the firm for more than 10 years. Bill has continually worked in public practice since receiving his Certified General Accountant designation in 1996. Tax has been his primary focus, having taken the two-year CICA In-depth tax course (now CPA In-Depth Tax Course). He maintains up to date knowledge by attending various tax seminars and the Canadian Tax Foundation of Canada conferences.

Glenn Fines

Partner

Glenn joined the firm in 2014, when it was operated as Minor & Associates by Bill. In February 2017, Glenn received his CPA, CGA designation and completed the CPA In-depth Tax course in August 2019. While completing his accounting courses, Glenn held a variety of positions with Lee Valley Tools in Calgary and the Western Hockey League. Prior to his accounting career, Glenn completed degrees in Zoology and his interest in marine biology led him to become a PADI scuba diving instructor.

Denise Elms

Manager, Tax & Accounting

Denise Elms began working for Focus LLP in 2007 after moving to Alberta from Newfoundland. She pursued other opportunities from 2014-2017 but rejoined the firm in October 2017. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Co-op) Degree from Memorial University and thoroughly enjoys working with small-medium sized corporations. In her spare time, Denise enjoys camping with her family and attending her kids’ various activities.

Ollie Yuan

Staff Accountant

Ollie Yuan is the longest-serving member of our team, having joined the firm in 2003. Ollie is originally from China where she worked in bank auditing. Her tax experience in Canada is well rounded and her clients really appreciate how diligent and caring she is, to ensure their tax filings are completed accurately and quickly.

Barbara Maltais

Admin Manager

Barbara Maltais joined the firm in May 2014 and comes to us with great experience having worked in a similar size public accounting firm. Holding a critical position within the firm Barb plays a vital role in ensuring the client’s projects are moved to completion in a timely fashion. Maintaining high client satisfaction is Barb’s top priority.
